Bristol Silents presents: Together (club)
Sun 5 Oct 1600 - 1730hrs Watershed Cinema 1
Fee: £4.00 full / £2.50 concessions
Dir: Lorenza Mazzetti UK 1958 52mins
Cast: Michael Andrews (VI), Eduardo Paolozzi
Against the background of the bombsites, warehouses and street markets of the late 1950s East End, "Together" offers a compelling exploration of the isolated lives of two Deaf men.
Despite its emotive fictional structure, the film is not a typically romantic view of East End working-class life, but instead offers a complex, open-ended presentation that refuses to judge.
The film is also extraordinary for its casting, with great performances from local people and the curious, but very successful, choices of the artist Michael Andrews and the internationally known sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi for the lead roles.
Shown in the 1956 Free Cinema screening at the NFT, the filmÕs depiction of an undiscovered Britain matched the personal dedication and experimentation of other films in the Free Cinema programme.
The screening will be introduced by Terry Riley, Series Editor for BBC2's "See Hear" programme.
