WELCOME:

For the first time in the South West, "VisionSign" (VS1 in partnership with Orange, Watershed and South West Screen / UK Film Council) bring you a weekend of screenings, discussions and social events celebrating the wealth and vibrancy of Deaf moving image culture.

Cinema is one of the most popular visual art forms, yet has often overlooked the needs and concerns of the Deaf community.

Perhaps as a result of this, recent years have seen a worldwide explosion in the development of moving image work by both Deaf and hearing directors experimenting with Sign Language and tackling issues that affect the Deaf community.

Over the weekend, "VisionSign" will give you the opportunity to sample an exciting range of contemporary short films by up-and-coming directors from around the globe.

We are also delighted to be screening two superb feature films Ð Chinese director Ning Jingwu's beautifully shot lyrical tale, "Silent River" and a preview screening of the acclaimed animated feature, "Finding Nemo", screened with descriptive captioning. Also on offer is a kid's matinee of shorts put together by the British Deaf Association and a rare opportunity to see the classic silent film "Together" on the big screen.

In addition to showcasing some of the best Sign Language and hearing-made films relevant to the Deaf community, the festival will also include Q&As with some of the filmsÕ directors, panel discussions with guest speakers from the film and TV industry and a film workshop.

Held in two of Bristol's most exciting film venues, Watershed and the Cube Cinema, "VisionSign" will also give you plenty of opportunities to mingle and meet filmmakers and film enthusiasts.
